Build Your Community with the HUB!

So you want to be a writer… Now what?
If you’re reading this page, it means you’re awesome.
You are an intrepid, super-motivated word nerd and you’re committed to reaching your creative goals, like:
- Getting started on a life-long dream of writing
- Exploring new genres and writing styles
- Finally typing those magic words “The End”
- Connecting with a community of like-minded writers
- Revising your book and getting it ready for submission
- Seeing your book through to publication
You also know that to get these results, you can’t go it alone. This is why my team and I have created the DIY MFA Members HUB.
Why the HUB?

You already know me as the instigator of DIY MFA and word nerd in chief. Now let me give you a behind-the-scenes look at the HUB and why my team and I created this community.
A Place to Hang Out
The biggest consideration for creating the HUB is that when courses aren’t in session students miss having a community. The HUB provides that for you with two calls each month so you can connect with like minded writers and build your community.
An Archive of Our Juiciest Materials
The other big reason for starting the HUB is that the DIY MFA website has gotten HUGE! We have so many articles and podcasts over there that it can feel overwhelming. We need a space to house our juiciest resources—like webinars or the Writer Igniter Summit recordings—where these materials won’t get lost amid all the things happening on the main site.
Keep the Momentum Going!
The HUB combines all of the above. It also includes access to a private Facebook group where we can continue conversations beyond our discussion calls. Plus, I’ll also share exclusive resources in the HUB that don’t appear on the main site!
If you’ve taken one of our signature programs like 101 or P2P, or FLOW, the HUB will help you keep the momentum going. And if you haven’t taken a class, the HUB will let you whet your appetite. Plus, it’s also a great way to ramp up your writing without the big commitment of a full course.
Gabriela has done for writing what others have done for the sciences and other complex fields. She has dissected it and laid it out, so it is rich yet understandable. I’ve attended several writing venues over the last few years, but I am always drawn back to DIY MFA, because Gabriela and her team make it comprehensible, encouraging, and doable without losing the rich depth of the craft.

After completing the DIY MFA 101 course, I joined the HUB keen to learn more about the craft and business side of writing. The HUB is an Aladdin’s cave of mini-courses, writer forums, and other resources. I dip into the HUB regularly and appreciate that I can cherry-pick the resources in my own time and pace and according to my needs.

Membership Info
It’s impossible to put a price tag on your creative life. That said, you might be wondering about the cost of joining this community.
The investment for the HUB is $39 per month, which amounts to a little over $1 per day, about the same as a weekly fancy latte. This epic deal gives you major savings. To give you an idea, just the webinars in the library alone would cost upwards of $49 apiece if you purchased them on their own, but you get access to the whole archive from day one.
What’s more, we’ll lock in this rate for as long as you remain a member in good standing. Because of all the awesome things we have planned for the HUB this year and beyond, we will likely increase this rate in the future. But when you sign up now, you can lock in this great deal!

Program Details

Join the HUB and you’ll get…
As a member, you’ll get a login to the HUB website so you can access all the materials anytime, anywhere. HUB resources include webinars, audio interviews, craft and discussion calls, and more! Read on to learn about all the features.
Webinars
You’ll have access to the DIY MFA webinar library, which features over 37 hours of pre-recorded webinars and mini-courses, including the Weekend Writing Sprint, the Storytelling Superpower series, Writer Igniter Con, and more. These webinars are designed to teach you about various aspects of writing and marketing your work. When we add new webinars to the library, you have the opportunity to attend the live session and get your questions answered during the Q&A.
Critique Sessions
These critique sessions are an opportunity to get feedback on your writing from me and the HUB community. Using our signature DIY MFA approach to critique, we do a deep dive into the submissions and writers leave the sessions with concrete feedback they can implement in their work right away. This critique experience is far and away one of the most popular features in the HUB.
Library
“Read with purpose” is perhaps the most overlooked—and also most rewarding—facet of DIY MFA. This is why my team and I have created the recommended reading library. We’ve selected various short stories, essays, and poems that showcase different DIY MFA techniques, so you can put those concepts into action.
Monthly Live Calls
If you’re anything like me, you find face-to-face connections are so much more meaningful than online chats. Don’t get me wrong, online is great, but there’s something about making eye contact (even if it’s only via video chat) that makes the connection feel much more personal. This is why the live calls are among the most important features of the HUB.
Each month, we have two calls—one focused on craft and one on discussion. (On the months we have a critique session, it will replace the writing clinic.) These calls are a safe space where you can ask a member of the DIY MFA team your questions about writing and publishing and connect with fellow HUB members. Calls are recorded so if you cannot make it live you will be able to watch the replay.
Interviews
The HUB also features an archive of our Writer Igniter Summits. We currently have over eighty interviews from authors and experts from a variety of genres, including Romance, Memoir, Sci-fi/Fantasy, Poetry, and more. These summit interviews are a great way to learn from the best in the business. Plus, when we run a new live summit, we archive the recordings in the HUB, so your library of resources is constantly growing.
BONUS: Private Facebook Group
This Facebook group allows for asynchronous community building and interaction. It gives us the opportunity to connect with fellow HUB members and continue the discussions beyond the live calls.

Guarantee
As a loyal and awesome word nerd, you already know that DIY MFA has high (perhaps even unrelenting) standards. We want to give you the best-of-the-best, but we also recognize that the HUB may not be for everyone.
By enrolling now, you can lock in your rate for as long as you remain a member in good standing. You can also absolutely cancel your membership at any time. Just email the support team at support[at]DIYMFA[dot]com and we’ll help you with that.
When you cancel, your membership will remain valid until the end of the subscription month you have paid for, at which point it will expire and you won’t be charged again in the future. Keep in mind that if you decide to rejoin down the line, you will have to sign up at the current (and possibly higher) membership rate that is available at that time. We will not be able to honor a previous rate in these circumstances.
This is a recurring membership so we do not offer refunds, but you can cancel your membership at any time.
Testimonials
When I finished DIY MFA 101, I knew I wanted to continue with the DIY MFA community. Joining the HUB offered me that opportunity. The resources within are amazing. Before I joined the HUB all I had was an idea of the epic fantasy novel I wished to write. From lessons learned from the HUB I wrote scenes that went into the novel as I wrote it. I am now about to publish my first book and that is in part because of the information and support I received. It was within the HUB that I actually began my first draft. I am a Happy Hubster!

The HUB keeps me accountable. The designated/required by my dreams HUB time is me-time to learn more about my craft, to keep up the practice, to learn something completely new that helps my WIP. It also encourages, inspires and graciously allows me to see others living MY dream which propels me to keep going, never quit and know that one day Published Author will happen for me, too!

I joined the HUB to continue the sense of community experienced during the Q&A calls. With the HUB I have enjoyed interacting with a supportive, kind, and diverse group of people. The Critique calls sharpen my skills as an editor and writer. They also broaden my understanding of genres outside my own when reading others’ work. Joining the HUB was the best writing business decision I’ve made.

When starting the HUB, I was concerned I wouldn’t have enough time to go through the content and would end up feeling overwhelmed and give up. Yet, even with my busy schedule I was still able to go through the content, in my time, and glean from it the necessary information I needed to grow myself in my writing. My favorite part has been the Critique and Q&A calls. I feel like I have learned leaps and bounds from them and the other group members which I love being a part of and because of the HUB I have finally published my first novel; something I have been stuck on for years! Thanks Gabriela! It truly has been a pleasure being a part of the HUB.

FAQ’s
Got questions? We’ve got answers.
When does this program officially start?
As soon as you register, you’ll get access to all the pre-recorded materials in the HUB, like the interviews, webinars, and library. The rest of this month will be like an orientation, where you’ll be able to explore the materials on your own. At the start of each month, you’ll receive a HUB Bulletin via email with the month’s meeting links and other relevant information. You can also find this information via the “Schedule” link on the HUB main page.
Will I be able to get through all the materials? What if I get overwhelmed?
Great question! With so many resources available in the HUB, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. This is why we have a series of intro videos that walk you through the various stages of a writer’s career and show you where to focus your attention depending on what stage you’re at.
Watch those intro videos first, then choose a couple of resources (e.g., webinar, live call, library selection, or author interview) to focus on each month. Remember: slow and steady is the key. You’ll have access to all the materials, but you’ll want to pace yourself and focus on the resources that will help you reach your goals.
The HUB archive is extensive and includes all of our past summit recordings as well as instructional webinars and video mini-courses. We also have a library section which includes short stories and essays highlighting different aspects of writing, as well as in-depth articles about the craft. Remember, you don’t have to go through it all at once. The monthly bulletins will highlight any new materials or features released that month.
How much time will I need to participate? What if I’m really busy?
We’ve structured the HUB so that the more time and effort you put into it, the more results you will get. As mentioned above, the key is to take small, steady steps and not try to do everything at once. That said, if you want to participate in the live portions of the HUB, you will need about 3 hours each month (1-1.5 hours apiece for our two monthly calls). All other resources are fully self-paced, so how much time you dedicate is up to you.
At the beginning of every month, you’ll get a HUB Bulletin via email with the information you need to access the calls for the coming month. Plus, you can always join conversations in the Facebook group.
Also, keep in mind that we provide the materials in multiple formats (video, audio, and presentation slides) so you can adapt the HUB materials to your learning style. This way you can listen to an audio interview on your morning commute, jot down notes on the presentation slides while you watch a webinar, or read a library selection right from your phone. Our goal is to make the HUB flexible, portable, and user-friendly so you can fit this community around your already-busy life.
What if I want to cancel my membership?
Just email support[at]DIYMFA[dot]com and we’ll take care of it for you. Your membership will remain valid until the end of the subscription period you have paid for, at which point it will expire. You won’t be charged again in the future. We’ll be sad to see you go, but we also understand that the HUB might not be for everyone. Keep in mind that if you cancel and decide to rejoin later, you will need to register at the current rate during our next membership period.
